The Royal Family
The royal family has been the subject of many rumors and scandals over the years, and one of the most persistent is the claim that Prince Philip forced his son, Charles, to marry Diana Spencer. The rumor has resurfaced in recent years, thanks in part to the popularity of The Crown, a Netflix series about the royal family.
The rumor appears to have originated with an article in The Sun newspaper in 1992, which quoted an anonymous source as saying that Philip had told Charles to marry Diana or “find someone else.” The source claimed that Philip was worried about Charles’s relationship with Camilla Parker-Bowles, and thought that marrying Diana would be a good way to end it.
However, there is no evidence to support this claim. In fact, multiple sources close to the royal family have denied it, including Diana’s biographer Andrew Morton and her close friend Simone Simmons. Moreover, there is no reason to think that Philip would have wanted Charles to marry Diana; at the time of their engagement, she was just 19 years old and had very little experience with royal life.
It’s more likely that the rumor was started by someone who wanted to damage Philip’s reputation, or by someone who simply didn’t know the truth. Either way, it’s best not to believe everything you read about the royals!

The Royal Wedding
The royal wedding between Prince Charles and Diana Spencer took place on July 29, 1981 at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, England. It was a momentous occasion, not just for the British royal family, but for the world. Over 3,500 guests witnessed the nuptials, which were broadcast to a global audience of over 750 million people.
The couple had only been dating for a short time before they got engaged, and there were rumors that Philip had pressured Charles into marrying Diana. However, these rumors have never been confirmed.
What is known is that Charles and Diana had a fairy-tale wedding, complete with all the pomp and circumstance that comes with being a member of the British royal family. The couple went on to have two sons together, William and Harry. Unfortunately, their marriage was not a happy one and they eventually divorced in 1996.
Prince Philip
Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and husband of Queen Elizabeth II, has been accused of “forcing” his son Prince Charles to marry Lady Diana Spencer.
The accusation comes from Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell, who claims that Philip was not happy with Charles’ relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles.
“The Duke of Edinburgh wasn’t happy about the relationship [between Charles and Camilla]. I think he saw it as playboyish behavior,” Burrell told ITV’s Lorraine.
“I think he saw Mrs. Parker Bowles as a bit of a bad influence and he decided that his son needed to settle down and so he effectively said, ‘Marry her’,” he added.
Burrell also claimed that Philip told Diana she was “too skinny” and needed to “fatten up”.
Prince Charles
Prince Charles, heir to the British throne, married Diana Spencer in 1981. The marriage was tumultuous and ended with Diana’s tragic death in 1997. There has been much speculation surrounding the reasons for the marriage, and whether or not Prince Philip, Charles’ father, played a role in forcing the union.
There is no concrete evidence that Philip forced Charles into the marriage, but there are several factors that suggest he may have had a hand in it. First, Philip was said to be displeased with Charles’ then-girlfriend Camilla Parker Bowles, and is thought to have encouraged Charles to marry Diana instead. Second, Philip is reported to have had a tense relationship with Diana herself; some say he viewed her as an intruder into the royal family. And finally, Philip is said to have been instrumental in pushing for a quick engagement and wedding between Charles and Diana.

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, is a member of the House of Windsor and is related to numerous European royals. Despite their close relationship, it has been rumored that Philip forced Charles to marry Diana Spencer in order to ensure that his own bloodline would continue to reign over the monarchy.
Whether or not this rumor is true remains unknown, but it certainly adds an interesting layer to the already complex British royal family tree!
The Royal Duties
As the oldest son of the King, it was Prince Philip’s duty to ensure that his firstborn child would one day become King or Queen. To that end, Philip had a great deal of say in who Charles married. It is rumored that Philip had input on both Andrew and Edward’s wives, but when it came to Charles, he was adamant that his son marry a virgin.
The Royal Residences
The British royal family has several residences, but Buckingham Palace is the best known. It has been the London home of the sovereign since 1837 and is currently the administrative headquarters of the Monarch. Windsor Castle, about 20 miles west of London, is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world and has been home to British kings and queens for almost 1,000 years.
Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh is the official Scottish residence of the Queen when she is in Scotland. The Palace of Westminster is where the Houses of Parliament meet and is therefore the focus of political life in Britain, but it is not actually a royal residence.
Balmoral Castle in Scotland and Sandringham House in Norfolk are private homes owned by the Queen where she spends her holidays.
